Iris van Daalen & Ruben Thier are both graduated in 2010 at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Shortly after graduation, they started their own studio, named Studio Thier&VanDaalen.
“We are fascinated to design new materials, treatments and applications for interiors and furniture. As well, we like to reuse existing objects or materials to give them a second life.”
They both educated at the same Academy, but in different directions (Man and Identity & Man and Activity). In this way, their approach to design is totally different. Where Ruben works at the technical side of design where feasibility and the knowledge of material are important, is Iris almost at the opposite side. Not pragmatic, but with Iris it is about styling, forecasting and intuition. This results in a strong combination which vibrates.Ratio versus intuition, yet fresh ideas constantly appear!
